What is wrong with writing for Digg?

Is it OK to write for Digg? Asks, Muhammad Saleem at Copy Blogger.

I thought I can't post my content to Digg.com but saw people who actually do that. Don't know if my posts ever end up at the homepage of Digg.com.

He mentions the existence of MFD or made for Digg sites, just like there are MFA (made for Adsense) sites.

I wonder if anything is wrong with MFD sites. For a blog post or just anything to get into the front page of Digg requires the support of many active diggers. No one is going to Digg an item that is not of interest to them.

If you see an item at Digg.com homepage, it tells just one thing. Considerable number of people at the Digg community has found the item interesting and they think fellow Diggers would be interested in the item too.

Writing for Digg is actually less about substance and more about how you present the content...
is his argument. I think it is a combination of the two –a cute lady dressed in the most attractive attire will steal the show. Well presented stuff gets dugg and will be attracting every other guy in the town.

How to make your items Digg-able!

The most Dugg items are 'Top 7 ...' Lists.

Top Seven PSP Cheats
Top Seven Simple Tweaks to Quadruple Your Adsense Earnings

Get an idea? You need to quickly attract the readers with the heading. You also need to deliver the content you promise. And you should conclude the piece while still keeping the readers bending forward.

It is not a bad thing to channel all your writing efforts to create content that ends up at Digg.com homepage.

If you have a regular fan following, you can also create a 'for Digg' post once or two times a week.

Remember, Digg traffic is not sustainable traffic. No where else is 'here today, gone tomorrow' truer.

This need not worry you. Look at the RSS subscriber numbers – check if it is growing after each Digg burst. If the number of RSS/email subscribers is increasing steadily, you are doing good Digging.

I don't see anything ethically wrong with writing for digg, writing for adsense, etc, though I do see a potential problem with it.

It comes down to your reasons for blogging. If you're writing to make money, then putting extra energy into getting bursts of traffic may be alright.

If you're writing because you like to write and because you want to connect with people, then you're probably better off putting your energy into writing well, commenting on blogs and making friends with other bloggers.

Of course, there's also the possibility of a balance between the two. It's an interesting question to think about, one I think each blogger will have to answer for him/herself.
